Industry exercise term 3

This blog will look over my work through the past term and also last term of my second year of animation practice. for this project we needed to find a client we could work for in some form and we chose to do the E4 stings competition.

the brief for the E4 stings is to create an animation or video which reflects the e4 channel and must be 10 seconds long and contain music done for the E4 channel.

my role in the group was concept and animation.


for our idea we wanted to do something with some humor in as this is what we thought of when we thought of e4 so our idea was to have a giant slot machine which we would then have a character pull the lever and then and then when he expects a a prize when he win he will get something a little less to his liking.

these are the storyboards i have done for the project at this point we still haven't decided on how it will end.

my next role was to design the character. 
my idea was to have a quite simple character design so to not over complicate anything so i've kept the shape and structure of him very minimalist. hopefully that will make it easy to rig when it comes to it.
we settled on the design in the top left hand corner so i now have to create some plan view drawings so it can be used to create the model. 
Richard will use this to create the character model.

once we came to rigging the character we had major difficulties and we found it impossible to rig the character so we had to settle on using a free rig to do the animation due to the time constraints as we would never been able to finish if we decided to model a new character.

my next task was to animate part of the final film along with harry and richard and my part was to animate the walk up to the slot machine. this wasn't too difficult if not for the fact that the free rig we used while had the right look for a piece it wasn't the best rigged as some joints weren't keyable meaning when the next person came to carry on the animating it would ruin the before animation if he tried to key infomation. we managed to solve this by having a cut of point and using the same rig but a new one placed in the same position as the last and carrying on the animation from there.
